PG without meals: packing checklist
Without meals in the rent, food becomes a daily job you plan yourself. A few kitchen basics let you cook simple meals instead of ordering every day. Before buying, look inside the shared kitchen: there may already be a stove, cylinder, fridge and utensils.
Ask before you pack
Send these questions to the hostel office, warden or PG owner. The answers decide half of the list below.
- Is there a shared kitchen, and what is in it: stove, gas cylinder, fridge, microwave, utensils?
- Who pays for gas refills, and how is the cost split?
- Is cooking in your room allowed? Is an induction cooktop or kettle allowed?
- Is there filtered drinking water?
- Is there space to store your own groceries?
- What does the rent cover, and is electricity billed separately?
- What are the deposit, the notice period and the refund terms? Is there a written agreement?
- Does the owner need documents for tenant or police verification?
