PG with meals included: packing checklist

In a paying-guest (PG) home where meals are part of the rent, your kitchen list shrinks. Your paperwork list grows: a rental agreement, deposit and rent receipts, and whatever the owner asks for. Plan for meals you will miss, such as late classes, early shifts or Sundays without lunch.

Ask before you pack

Send these questions to the hostel office, warden or PG owner. The answers decide half of the list below.

  1. Which meals are included, at what times, and what happens if you miss one?
  2. What does the rent cover: electricity, Wi-Fi, laundry, room cleaning? Is electricity billed separately?
  3. How much is the security deposit, what is the notice period, and when is the deposit refunded? Is this written down?
  4. Will you get a written rental agreement and monthly rent receipts?
  5. Does the owner need documents for tenant or police verification, and which ones?
  6. How many people share the room, and is there a lockable cupboard?
  7. Which appliances may you use in the room, and is there a fridge you can share?
  8. What are the rules on entry times and visitors?
