You will study or work in the same small room where someone else sleeps. These types help you work without disturbing a roommate, keep papers safe, and stay comfortable through long sessions on a narrow table or a bed.
LED desk lamp
It lets you read late after your roommate turns off the main light.
Check before you buy
- An adjustable arm or neck, so the light falls on your page and not on a sleeping roommate.
- Brightness steps and a choice of warm or neutral light.
- Clamp-on lamps save desk space.
- Rechargeable lamps help during power cuts; check the stated backup time.
Skip or avoid
- Lamps that only work while plugged in, if your desk is far from the socket.
Safety note. If the lamp takes a separate bulb, self-ballasted LED lamps are on BIS’s Compulsory Registration Scheme list. Under that scheme the Standard Mark comes with a unique registration (R-) number, which you can check in the BIS Care app. Source: BIS Scheme II (registration) list (opens in a new tab); BIS CRS portal: About CRS (opens in a new tab); BIS Care app page (opens in a new tab), checked 26 October 2026.
